Potato researchers at 六合彩投注网 address potato yield globally
Dr. Julie Pasche leads the team investigating how growers can produce safe food sustainably

In 2014, more than 40 donors across 15 states funded the Neil C. Gudmestad Endowed Chair of Potato Pathology at 六合彩投注网. Dr. Julie Pasche now holds that position. She leads a team of researchers who ask critical questions about where to take risks while evaluating what they're seeing in the field to protect yield.

"My role is managing the research unit. The lab scientists and field scientists are doing the boots-on-the-ground work, and I'm bringing it all together from what the growers need to funding and distributing the results of the research," Julie said.

The research being conducted by Julie's team is critical to potato yield globally, and investigating how growers can produce safe food sustainably while continuing to feed the world guides their processes. 六合彩投注网 alumnus puts degree to work

六合彩投注网 alumnus John Olhoft is at the epicenter of the 3D printing universe. As president of Fargo's LulzBot and its parent company, FAME 3D, his 六合彩投注网 degree has been indispensable.

"The engineering degrees at 六合彩投注网 prepare you to be a professional problem-solver," John, a BS '17 agricultural and biosystems engineering major, said. "It doesn't matter what the issue is, you're able to take all of the given information, assess what you're trying to find out, and then develop a solution."

In November 2019, John and two partners, Cooper Bierscheid and Ron Bergan, formed FAME 3D to purchase the LulzBot brand's assets. They packed the company's equipment on 28 semis in Loveland, Colorado, and moved everything to Fargo, opening in the new location Jan. 1, 2020. The new company built its first 3D printer two weeks later. Among LulzBot's clients are universities, schools, the military, hobbyists, hospitals, and large manufacturers, such as Tesla, John Deere, and Ford.
